Dr. Mahnoor Nasir, the acid attack victim in Quetta, has been shifted to Karachi for advanced medical treatment, where she is currently reported to be in stable condition and out of danger.
The victim, Dr. Mahnoor Nasir, was airlifted to a private hospital on University Road, Karachi, after sustaining serious burn injuries during an attack at Sandeman Provincial Hospital, Quetta.
According to hospital sources, she suffered burns on nearly 13% of her body, including her face, abdomen, and right hand. The sides of both eyes were also affected by the acid; however, doctors confirmed that her eyesight remains intact.
Upon arrival in Karachi, the doctor underwent initial medical examinations and diagnostic tests. A team of plastic surgeons and eye specialists has assessed her condition, after which she was shifted to a Special Care Unit for further treatment and observation. Her condition has been described as satisfactory, with gradual improvement being observed.
Doctors said she will undergo a follow-up medical review after 24 hours and will remain under close supervision, including short-term intensive care monitoring during the initial phase of recovery.
Meanwhile, police in Quetta registered a case at Civil Lines Police Station against the suspect under relevant sections of law. Authorities stated that the accused, identified as Humayun Shah, was later killed in an encounter during an operation to arrest him.
Officials further claimed that the suspect had allegedly been harassing the doctor for several months, with supporting evidence reportedly recovered from his mobile phone.
Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Kakar said the victim was shifted to Karachi at her family’s request despite the availability of burn treatment facilities in the province. He added that the provincial government, under the Chief Minister’s directives, is ensuring full medical support for the doctor.
The incident has triggered strong public and medical community outrage, with healthcare workers demanding stricter protection for female doctors in hospitals.
Separately, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti praised hospital staff member Abdul Razzaq Tareen, who sustained injuries while trying to save the doctor during the attack, and assured complete government support for his treatment.
Sarfraz Bugti also announced a civil award for ward boy Abdul Razzaq, who helped save the life of Dr. Mahnoor during a recent acid attack incident.
The brutal attack has sparked widespread condemnation across Balochistan, while the Young Doctors Association has announced a partial boycott of services, continuing emergency care in protest.
