Lahore: At least eight people sustained burn injuries after an explosion caused by a gas leak in a house near Attari Darbar on Ferozepur Road on Monday.
According to a Rescue spokesperson, gas had leaked into a room of the house, and the explosion occurred when a heater was switched on. The blast triggered a fire, leaving eight occupants with burn injuries. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and shifted all the injured to General Hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident, an explosion occurred during illegal gas cylinder refilling in the Chak Shafi area of Pakpattan. The blast blew off the roof of a shop, damaged nearby electricity wires, and sparked a fire inside the premises. Rescue officials managed to bring the fire under control, preventing further damage or loss of life.
These incidents come a day after a tragic gas leakage explosion in Islamabad that turned a wedding celebration into mourning, killing eight people, including the bride and groom.
According to official data, 488 incidents of gas cylinder and gas leakage explosions have been reported in Punjab over the past three years, resulting in at least 25 fatalities. Despite repeated incidents, unsafe storage of gas cylinders and illegal refilling continue due to negligence and lack of effective enforcement by the concerned authorities.
