The Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department has introduced a digital birth and death registration system under newly approved rules to make the registration process easier for citizens.
The new system will officially take effect August 1, with all registrations processed through an online platform.
Under the updated rules, births and deaths can be registered free of charge for up to seven years from the date they occur. Computerized birth and death certificates will also be issued free of charge during this period.
The department has removed all registration fees for births and deaths reported within seven years. It has also eliminated the requirement to obtain a court order for delayed registrations.
Under the new rules, the secretary of the relevant Union Council will be authorized to register the births of children up to 1 year old.
The assistant director will approve registrations for children older than 1 year and up to 7 years old, while cases involving individuals older than 7 years will be handled by the relevant deputy director.
