RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Syria are looking to deepen security ties as the two countries focus on closer coordination to address shared regional challenges.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani and his delegation met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi during the minister’s visit to Pakistan, with discussions centered on regional security and expanding bilateral cooperation in defense and security.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting covered matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in defense and security-related fields.

Field Marshal Munir said Pakistan values its longstanding brotherly ties with Syria and stressed the need for cooperation and joint efforts to promote regional and global peace and stability.

He also emphasized the importance of closer coordination between the two countries in addressing shared security challenges.

Al-Shaibani praised the professional role of the Pakistan Army in promoting regional peace and stability. He also reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Pakistan and expanding cooperation in defense and security.

According to ISPR, both sides agreed to broaden mutual cooperation in the defense and security sectors and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.

The meeting comes as both countries seek greater regional coordination amid continuing security challenges across the region. Their discussions highlighted the importance of sustained engagement and joint efforts to support peace and stability.
