Belonging to a faraway village in Pakistan’s Chitral valley, Karishma Ali is a 23-year-old football fanatic, and is the first from her hometown to play the sport at a national and international level. Next, she is leading the way with her acts of generosity and humanitarianism and aiding the people of her village after the detrimental effects of the novel coronavirus.

Karishma depicted Pakistan in a favorable light when she played at the Jubilee Games in Dubai. She is also the pioneer of the Chitral Women’s Sports Club. Her team was the first women’s team to take part in the Australian Football International (AFL) cup. In the past year, Forbes recognized her in the ’30 under 30’ in Asia, along with tennis and pop sensations like Naomi Osaka and the Korean band Black Pink.

The promising all-rounder athlete selflessly spent hours driving around hilly and steep areas in order to deliver essentials to local healthcare centers and the needy who were affected drastically by the Covid-19 pandemic. The capital for the equipment was raised by her through social platforms.

As narrated by her, rations to 300 families were given, 155 N95 masks, 53 goggles, 250 PPE suits, 650 surgical masks, 400 pairs of surgical gloves, and 76 face shields were donated to DHQ Hospital Chitral in August. “The men work as daily wage laborers in different cities in Pakistan and what happened after the closedown, many industries and businesses closed down, they had to return home, and people were finding it really difficult, a lot of families were in need.”

Sportswoman Karishma Ali wishes to see women educating themselves and attaining new sets of skills as that is what she battled for. “Ten years from now I want to see at least 10-20 more girls like myself who come back here [Chitral] after they’ve achieved their dream and work for the other girls that I was not able to reach out to and, slowly, I see a progressive society where men and women are working equally, where women do not have to stress about traditional customs and be able to freely do what they can and see that I was part of all of this change.”
