It always depends on the squad who can’t field 11 players this week without hits, it’s time to wildcard in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

This is a week where accepting a 4-point hit or two to field 11 players is worth considerable consideration if the wildcard isn’t a possibility for you. Many FPL managers are asking me whether they should free hit this week, and while I could give you 101 reasons why you shouldn’t, I’ll leave you with just two: double gameweeks!

This season, it hasn’t been simple to predict clean sheets, but Newcastle’s defense now appears to be among the league’s most dependable. They have six shutouts in their previous ten games at St. James’ Park, and with home games coming up against Bournemouth, Brentford, Everton, and Aston Villa, I believe we need to make an investment in their back line. I’m partnering with Nick Pope (5.1) and Kieran Trippier (5.3), who last time out racked up an incredible six opportunities against Crystal Palace.

It’s important to note that Manchester City won’t play in GW12 because their match against Arsenal was postponed, but up until that time, we should be betting heavily on the Champions. There is no bigger or better way for me to ensure that triple City is selected in every wildcard draft than by possessing Erling Haaland (12.0), Joao Cancelo (7.0), and new arrival Kevin De Bruyne (12.2).

The Belgian is playing extremely advanced right now, so it gives me hope to see him off Haaland’s shoulder so frequently. He becomes the best assist and goal threat in the league when he plays in these positions. He got four goals the last time he went to Molineux! De Bruyne is a suitable stand-in for the Egyptian King if, like me, you’re not bringing Mohamed Salah.

Aleksandar Mitrovi, this was always the week I intended to go on, and Fulham’s fixtures have turned green (6.9). He has established himself as a fixture-proof player, and after witnessing what he has accomplished against some of the league’s top players, I am really eager to own him for the upcoming round of games. Salah (12.9) and Haaland (12.0) square off in GW11, therefore Mitrovic—who faces Bournemouth at home—might be considered for the captaincy.

Reece James is the only player on my wildcard who does not have a game this week (6.0). James will likely be allowed to advance under Graham Potter, and the heat maps from Chelsea’s Champions League game last week show that he will frequently touch the ball in and near the opposing box.

Additionally, I anticipate Chelsea will preserve more clean sheets under Potter, and they have a fantastic stretch of games that they can win coming up. James has the biggest potential of any defender in this game on his best day, and at 6.0, I still believe he offers exceptional value.

Liverpool doesn’t play this weekend, and their subsequent four Premier League games are against Brighton, Arsenal, Manchester City, and West Ham. It’s a challenging stretch that falls between Champions League games.

Similarly, Arsenal has a difficult stretch ahead of them and misses out on GW12. Yes, players like Salah (12.9), Gabriel Jesus (8.1), Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.5), and Oleksandr Zinchenko (5.1) can score a lot of goals against anyone, but if you look at percentages, I believe players like De Bruyne (12.2), Harry Kane (11.4), James (6.0), and Trippier (5.3) will outscore these players.
Once again, Haaland (12.0) is the obvious choice for captain this week, but Kane (11.2) vs. Leicester may be a lot of fun if you want to try something a bit different.

Kane has a remarkable record against the Foxes (19 goals and four assists in 18 outings against them), and Leicester just don’t seem to know how to maintain clean sheets at the moment, so I anticipate them to try in what should be a free-flowing, high-scoring match.
