Kylian Mbappe in form as PSG wins first game against Juventus
Kylian Mbappe played vital role as Paris St Germain. Started their Champions...
Kylian Mbappe scored the game-winning goal off the bench as Paris Saint-Germain overcame Nice 2-1 on Saturday to recover first place in Ligue 1.
Mbappe was omitted from the starting lineup by coach Christophe Galtier, who had one eye on Wednesday’s Champions League match at Benfica.
This is one of eleven matches the French national team will play in the six weeks preceding the World Cup.
Mbappe was substituted by Hugo Ekitike, a 20-year-old making his debut start for PSG.
However, another superstar Lionel Messi took the early spotlight when he gave PSG the lead in the 29th minute with a free-kick that curled over the Nice wall and past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Gaetan Laborde, who was coached by Galtier until this season, equalized for Nice in the 47th minute after PSG’s dreadful defensive confusion.
Mbappe was brought off the bench at the hour mark and scored the game-winning goal with seven minutes remaining after Nice failed to play the ball out of defence.
Mbappe scored his eighth league goal of the season, tying him with teammate Neymar atop the scoring lists.
PSG leads Marseille by two points after Marseille’s 3-0 victory over Angers on Friday.
