Mohammad Hafeez, a former captain of Pakistan and all-rounder, was admitted on Friday to the University of Karachi’s (KU) BS in Health, Physical Education, and Sports Sciences (HPESS) programme.

The 42-year-old said that his professional cricket career prevented him from continuing his education.

At the vice chancellor’s secretariat on Friday, the Sargodha native met Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi. On this occasion, Professor Dr. Basit Ansari, Chairman of HPESS, was also present.

“Mohammad Hafeez expressed that he was delighted to be a part of the country’s largest public sector university and hoped that HPESS would help him in achieving his dreams of pursuing higher education,” a press release issued by KU stated.

“Meanwhile, the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi while welcoming Muhammad Hafeez to the University of Karachi said that students would learn a lot from the former captain’s cricketing experience.

“He mentioned that our young generation should also participate in sports as it is essential for mental and physical development. He said that people should learn from the spirit of competition rather than getting jealous of someone’s success.”

According to an Iraqi, students at the University of Karachi can participate in both academic and extracurricular activities.

After the remarkable victory over India and New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021, he informed Mohammad Hafeez that the University of Karachi had announced fully paid scholarships for the team members. They had also decided to provide the best facilities and cover all of the academic costs for the athletes who had represented their nation with honour in international competitions.

Over the course of his illustrious career, Hafeez played for Pakistan in 55 Tests, 218 ODIs, and 119 T20Is.
