Emma Raducanu suffers injury setback amid Miami Open loss
Emma Raducanu has stated that she will seek new advice regarding her painful wrist after being eliminated in the first round of the Miami Open. This leaves her with additional questions regarding her injury.
On Wednesday, Canadian Bianca Andreescu defeated Raducanu 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in a match between two former US Open champions that featured some exceptional performances from the British 20-year-old.
But Raducanu’s wrist was clearly bothering her, and as she left the court, she said that it was time to think about whether or not it wasn’t an injury she could just try to play through.
She told, “It’s something I have been managing for some time. I just need to review after this tournament and figure out my next steps.”
“We have been managing it, keeping on top of it. I’m able to play in the short-term. But the current solutions aren’t very viable long-term,”
After Raducanu showed that she was on the upswing with her run to the last 16 at Indian Wells, the wrist issue will be especially frustrating for her.
Raducanu has been plagued by injuries and fitness issues ever since he sensationally won the US Open in 2021, and they don’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
She added, “I think I’m doing the right things daily, which brings me confidence. This year has been difficult in the sense that I have been managing a few existing injuries.”
“Yeah, that has been annoying and frustrating because I’ve been working as best as I can. But I feel like I’m enjoying the competition.”
According to Raducanu, her decision not to participate in the Billie Jean King Cup match against France on hard courts in Coventry in the middle of April was due to her injury.
The following week, the 20-year-old will compete in Stuttgart on clay.
“The best medical advice was not to switch surfaces so quickly due to my existing injuries. She stated, “So that’s what I have been told.”
