According to Spanish news site MARCA on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz will not be able to go with his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, which will be a big setback ahead of the highly anticipated Australian Open in 2024.

The 20-year-old Alcaraz has become one of the greatest players in the world and has already won the US Open and Wimbledon Grand Slams. The Spaniard was hoping to win his first major in Australia, but he might run into issues after his loss today.

Ferrero will not be able to accompany the emerging star on his travels because he is recovering from an arthroscopy on his left knee. He will sit this one out and start competing with Alcaraz in the Masters 1000 in Indiana Wells from March 6 to 17.

Alcaraz is scheduled to take part in an exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the help of his agent Alberto Molina. However, Samuel Lopez is anticipated to take over as coach of the Australian Open, meaning there will soon be a change in the coaching staff.

Although Lopez is currently Pablo Carreno’s coach, he has worked with Alcaraz before, when the young phenom won the Queen’s Open 500.

Antonio Martínez Cascales will replace Alcaraz as coach for the tournaments in Buenos Aires (February 12–18) and Rio de Janeiro (February 19–25) on the South American tour in February. The goal of this calculated coaching change is to give Alcaraz the best possible assistance during these pivotal competitions.

Alcaraz is a rising star in the tennis world, and the dramatic changes in his coaching staff show that he is taking a calculated approach to improving his performance on the global tennis scene.

Next week, Alcaraz and the 101st-ranked Italian player Flavio Cobolli are expected to exercise together. In addition, Alcaraz will have his height measured on Thursday, the 21st, in order to be eligible to join Jannik Sinner for preseason training in Alicante at the Ferrero Tennis Academy.
