Mason Greenwood joined Getafe on deadline day in September, and since then, the left-footed forward has been playing brilliantly. Talk Sport on Friday said that Manchester United have made their plans for Greenwood’s possible return to the team extremely apparent.
Greenwood signed a six-month loan agreement with the Spanish team, and Man United will continue to pay his wage till the completion of the campaign. In 15 games with his new team, he has five goals and four assists.
The article further stated that the 20-time Premier League (PL) champions have no plans to bring the English international back to the team, despite his impressive comeback to the field following an 18-month suspension.
Greenwood’s United contract expires in June 2024, and the most likely scenario is that the 22-year-old will sign a free agent contract with a prestigious team, assuming any interest is expressed.
It should be mentioned that following a six-and-a-half-month investigation, United announced in August that Greenwood would not be pursuing a career with them.
The English club parted ways with the 22-year-old despite giving the player a clean sheet following their probe due to internal strife and fan backlash.
Following the posting of her images and an audio recording on social media by his ex-girlfriend Harriet Robson, Greenwood was taken into custody in January 2022 on suspicion of rape.
The football player was therefore instantly barred by the club from both practice and games. He didn’t play for The Red Devils again until January 2022, against West Ham.
Following his arrest, Electronic Arts acknowledged that the player had been removed from active squads on FIFA 22, and Nike suspended and eventually discontinued its sponsorship agreement with the player.
However, the prosecutor withdrew Mason Greenwood’s attempted rape and assault allegations in February 2023.
The decision to end the case against the 22-year-old was made, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), in part because of the withdrawal of important witnesses and the discovery of fresh evidence.
