Imad Wasim, a former all-rounder for Pakistan, opened up for the first time after he announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 34 and his lengthy association with the Karachi Kings of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Imad’s abrupt retirement surprised many, since the left-handed all-rounder was in excellent physical condition and had been playing well in T20 leagues across the globe. He last played for Pakistan in a T20I series against New Zealand in 2023.

Seven days after declaring his retirement from international cricket, Imad did, at last, discuss his decision, stating that his mental health wasn’t in the best condition but that he wasn’t coerced into it.

“It was my own decision. Mentally, I was not in the right state of mind. Yes, if I was in that place (mentally right), I wouldn’t have made that decision,” Imad said.

Imad declined to respond directly when asked if he would think about playing international cricket again, saying that anything is possible in life.

“This is life; anything is possible here. I didn’t take the decision to take a U-turn, but you never know what happens next in life. I have taken retirement, and it is what it is,” he added.

The all-rounder played for Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is after making his debut against Zimbabwe in May 2015. Throughout his international career, he amassed 1,472 runs and claimed 109 wickets.

Imad was a vital component of the Pakistani side that won the Champions Trophy in 2017 and had been for many years. In addition, he participated in the World Cups of 2019 and 2021 as a T20 player.

It should be mentioned that after getting selected for the Islamabad team, Imad recently made the decision to forego the current National T20 Cup in Karachi.

The cricket player is presently playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 League for the Deccan Gladiators.

Imad was a part of one of the greatest PSL deals ever earlier, on November 29, when he joined Islamabad United and Hasan Ali joined the 2020 PSL winners.
