Rafael Nadal, a 22-time grand slam winner, has announced that he will be making his comeback from injury at the Brisbane International in January.
The tennis legend has been sidelined for the past year due to a hip problem, but he has been training hard in recent weeks and is now ready to return to the court.
“After a year away from competition, it’s time to come back,” Nadal said in a video posted on social media. “It will be in Brisbane the first week of January.”
Nadal is expected to make a grand slam return at the Australian Open as well, but he will need to use his protected ranking or rely on a wildcard entry, as he is currently ranked at No. 662 in the world.
“I’m really excited to be back,” Nadal said. “I’ve been training hard and I’m feeling good. I’m looking forward to getting back on the court and competing again.”
Nadal’s return is a major boost for the tennis world, and he will be looking to add to his record-breaking grand slam tally in 2024.
The Brisbane International will be held from January 1-8, 2024.
