Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed optimism about Jadon Sancho’s loan move back to Borussia Dortmund, following a recent disagreement that led to the winger’s departure from Old Trafford.
The discord between Sancho and Ten Hag originated in September when the young Englishman refused to apologize for a social media post, claiming he was unfairly labeled a “scapegoat” by the manager after being left out of the squad against Arsenal. Sancho contested Ten Hag’s explanation that he wasn’t at the “right level” to be involved, and as a result, he found himself on the periphery at Manchester United, even training with the U18s.
The loan move to Borussia Dortmund provides Sancho with an opportunity to gain regular competitive football and potentially rekindle interest in the England international for a future sale by Manchester United.
“I hope he is doing well. I wish him the best of luck, and it will be a success,” commented Ten Hag on Sancho’s departure. Despite their past differences, the Dutch manager has been hesitant to delve into details about the discord during Sancho’s absence, quickly dismissing any further questions on the matter.
The agreement between Manchester United and Dortmund for Sancho’s loan is valued at €3.5 million, with the potential to increase to €7.5 million based on the winger’s performance for the remainder of the season. Notably, there is no option or obligation to purchase, signaling that the 23-year-old will return to Old Trafford after his loan spell.
Speaking about his return to Dortmund, Sancho expressed excitement, stating, “When I walked into the changing room today, it felt like ‘coming home’. I know the club inside out, I’ve always been very close to the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with the people in charge. I can’t wait to see my teammates again, get out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, get assists, score goals, and help the club qualify for the Champions League.”
As Sancho embarks on this new chapter with Borussia Dortmund, the encouraging words from his former manager, Erik ten Hag, may play a role in shaping his future at both the German club and potentially back at Manchester United.
