ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the Islamabad United team for winning...
Islamabad United won ther ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League
The 10th installment of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is tentatively scheduled for April-May of the upcoming year.
Insider information suggests that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed a timeframe from April 8 to May 20 to the PSL franchises. This, however, coincides with the usual schedule of the Indian Premier League.
The proposed window was chosen considering the players’ availability and the need to manage their workload effectively.
In addition, the PCB plans to provide all franchises with the opportunity to recruit a marquee player for the forthcoming edition of the tournament. The signing of these standout players is expected to occur in the next few months. Furthermore, the PCB intends to provide financial assistance to franchises for the recruitment of these marquee players.
In other news, Naila Bhatti, the PSL commissioner, has reportedly resigned from her position, a decision that the PCB has accepted.
It’s been reported that Naila, a member of former PCB Chairman Najam Sethi’s team, stepped down due to disagreements with board officials.
Earlier this year in March, Islamabad United clinched the ninth season of the PSL by defeating Multan Sultans by a narrow margin of two wickets at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
Under the leadership of Shadab Khan, Islamabad claimed their third PSL championship, having previously won in 2016 and 2018, thereby cementing their status as the most successful team in the history of the tournament.
The nail-biting finale was decided on the very last ball when Hunain Shah stepped up to the crease needing just one run. The young player cleverly spotted a gap at point and struck the ball for four, securing the victory.
