Usman Khan, the dynamic batter of Multan Sultans, made history in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during a match against Islamabad United at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Participating as an overseas player, Usman hit another century, propelling his team to a respectable total of 228 runs, thanks to his powerful hitting in the final 10 overs.

The right-handed batsman scored a quickfire 100 off just 50 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes, ending his innings with an impressive strike rate of 200.

In doing so, he became the first player in PSL history to score two centuries in a single season, having previously hit a century against Karachi Kings at the National Bank Stadium on March 3.

Born in Karachi, Usman now has three centuries in just 14 PSL innings, equalling the record held by former Peshawar Zalmi star Kamran Akmal, who scored as many centuries in 74 innings.

The 28-year-old also holds the record for the fastest century in the league, having hit a century off just 36 balls against Quetta Gladiators in PSL 8.

Batting first, the Sultans had a slow start, managing only 58 runs in the powerplay for the loss of two wickets.

However, after Mohammad Rizwan’s dismissal, Usman and Johnson Charles launched an attack on Islamabad’s bowlers, building a strong 86-run partnership in just 50 balls.

Charles was dismissed after a brisk 18-ball 42, leaving his team at 144/3 in 13.2 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed came to the crease next but could only contribute 13 runs before falling to Naseem Shah.

Despite the loss of two wickets, Usman continued his aggressive batting, helping Multan reach a total of 228 runs.

It’s worth noting that Multan has already secured a spot in the PSL 9 playoffs, while Islamabad needs to win this match. Otherwise, their chances of qualifying would depend on Peshawar Zalmi defeating Karachi Kings in their final match.
