Huawei expected to release a successor to the Mate 40 Pro for some time, but the latest rumour is that it will arrive in 2022 after a year of delays and postponements. According to Digital Chat Station, this may have been for the best, since the phablet now has a stronger possibility of having Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Kirin 9000 variants.

Moreover, the former might be a 4G/LTE-only version of the flagship silicon, possibly known as the SM8425. Meanwhile, another Weibo-based leaker, 8090 Digital Beauty, claims to have some new insight as to the display to be driven by this silicon.

The tipster claims to have found a screen protector for the Huawei Mate 50 Pro in the outdoors. It will have the waterfall-style display associated with many of its progenitors, based on its appearance. Instead of a double punch-hole like the 40 Pro, the sensor cut-out will be a throwback to previous generations in terms of size and appearance.

In fact, the notch potentially outlined in this new leak is so large it looks most like that of the iPhone 13 series, the only flagship smartphone to stick with such a notch in 2022. However, whether Huawei has truly chosen to mimic it in the Mate 50 Pro remains to be seen.
