WhatsApp ‘Account Info Request’ feature now available on desktop

According to reports, WhatsApp has begun rolling out a test upgrade that allows users to request account information on WhatsApp desktop.

To comply with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, the capability was first introduced for Android and iOS (GDPR).

Only after updating your WhatsApp desktop to the latest beta version is the Request Account Info feature claimed to be available.

The feature is presently only available to beta testers and appears to be trickling out slowly.

WhatsApp started offering free cloud-based API services earlier this week in an effort to entice more businesses to use the app.

WhatsApp Premium, a subscription-based model, is also being tried for WhatsApp Business, according to a recent report.

WhatsApp featured tracker WABetaInfo recently reported that the social media app has begun rolling out a beta update that allows users to Request Account Info on WhatsApp desktop.

Until today, the feature was only available on WhatsApp for Android and iOS.

Users will only be able to use the “Request Account Info on Desktop” function after updating their WhatsApp desktop beta to the most recent version – it was first identified in development in the v2.2204.1 beta version, but was not visible to testers at the time.

Even now, the capability may only be offered to a select group of beta testers.

In 2018, WhatsApp added the Request Account Info tool for Android and iOS as part of the company’s GDPR compliance efforts.

When users ask WhatsApp for a report, it is sent in three days. However, consumers may have to wait a little longer before they can download it.

All activity information, contact device data, and privacy settings will be included in the report.

In other news, WhatsApp said this week that it will offer free cloud-based API services in an effort to encourage more businesses to use the app.

WhatsApp already offers an API, or application programming interface, that allows businesses to link their systems to the service and engage in customer service chats, generating cash for Meta.

WhatsApp Premium, a subscription-based model, is also being tried for WhatsApp Business, according to a recent report.

Business accounts can opt to pay a set amount for numerous features and capabilities under this approach.

WhatsApp Business profile owners can reportedly opt-out of WhatsApp Premium and use the current version instead.

The feature would allow organizations to attach up to 10 devices after they subscribe to a plan, according to the first mention of a subscription plan in April.
