Elon Musk’s xAI artificial intelligence chatbot Grok acknowledged on Friday that lapses in safeguards had resulted in images depicting minors in minimal clothing appearing on social media platform X, and said improvements are underway to prevent such incidents.
Users on X shared screenshots showing Grok’s public media tab filled with images that had allegedly been altered when they uploaded photos and prompted the bot to modify them.
“There are isolated cases where users prompted for and received AI-generated images depicting minors in minimal clothing,” Grok wrote in a post on X. “xAI has safeguards, but improvements are ongoing to block such requests entirely.”
Grok also emphasized the legal and ethical boundaries, stating, “As noted, we’ve identified lapses in safeguards and are urgently fixing them CSAM is illegal and prohibited.” (CSAM refers to Child Sexual Abuse Material.)
No further details were provided.
In a separate response to a user on Thursday, Grok noted that most cases could be prevented through advanced filters and monitoring, but acknowledged that “no system is 100% foolproof.” The chatbot added that xAI is prioritizing improvements and reviewing information shared by users to strengthen safeguards.
