International Friendship Day 2021: Date, history, significance, celebration
Friendship is a bond that two or more people share. It’s another word for love and International Friendship Day is celebrated to give a toast to friends who are there just a call away. Everyone has their 3 am friend who handles your tantrums and pampers you always. The day is celebrated once a year. Friends are the sunshine of life, and without them, life would be very boring indeed. So on International Day of Friendship 2021, we take a look at how this day came.
The International Day of Friendship is celebrated on July 30. But some countries, including India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, UAE, and the US, celebrate friendship day on the first Sunday of August.
In 1930, Friendship Day was first organized by the founder of Hallmark Cards, Joyce Hall. He intended this day to be celebrated on August 2; a day when people would come together and celebrate their camaraderie.
However, people quickly realized that it was only a gimmick to sell greeting cards and the holiday died down in the United States. In most countries across Asia, Friendship day is still celebrated on August 2.
An International Friendship Day was first proposed on July 30, 1958, by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organization that campaigns to foster peaceful culture through friendship. The idea of globally celebrating Friendship Day came to Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho on July 20, 1958.
As he sat down to dinner with his friends in the town of Puerto Pinasco, Paraguay, the merry group of friends gave way to the World Friendship Crusade. It was meant to be a foundation that would promote friendship and fellowship among humankind, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or religion.
The day is significant in so many ways. What would we be without that one friend who makes life so much easier? Besides, the United Nations said that the world is faced with many challenges, including, poverty, violence, and human rights abuses. These issues undermine peace, security, development, and social harmony among the people across the globe.
And therefore, to confront these challenges and overcome them, the promotion and defense of a shared spirit of human solidarity are extremely important. The simplest and purest form of any relationship is considered to be friendship.
How to Celebrate?
International Friendship Day is celebrated by friends exchanging greeting cards and gifts, spending quality time with their best friends, some even make friendship bands and tie them on their friends’ wrists on this day as an act of confirmation and simply put in extra efforts to make their friends feel With Friendship Day 2021 just around the corner, make sure you spend time with your friends.
