Republican President Donald Trump claimed he has fired a top election official who contradicted his claims of voter fraud.

He said “terminated” Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (Cisa) chief Chris Krebs for his “highly inaccurate” remarks on vote integrity.

Mr. Trump has not accepted the November Election results and has made claims of voter fraud. But Election officials said the vote was the “most secure” in US history.

Why was Krebs fired?

As per the details, Krebs had reportedly incurred the White House’s displeasure over a Cisa website called Rumor Control, which exposed election misinformation.

He posted a tweet before he was fired that appeared to be against Trump’s allegations.

Mr. Krebs tweeted, “ICYMI: On allegations that election systems were manipulated, 59 election security experts all agree, ‘in every case of which we are aware, these claims either have been unsubstantiated or are technically incoherent.’ #Protect2020”.

Mr. Krebs is the latest official to be fired by the US President after his defeat. Earlier, Defense Secretary Mark Esper was also dismissed after reports Mr. Trump doubted the Pentagon chief’s loyalty.

He was among the other senior officials from the Department of Homeland Security who last week declared the 3 November US general election the “most secure in American history”, while rejecting “unfounded claims”.
