Democrat Presidential candidate Joe Biden has said he is confident of victory as he is close to Donald Trump.

He has won 253 out of 270 Electoral College votes needed to make way towards the White House.

In addition to this, he is also leading vote counts in the battlegrounds of Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.

What did Biden say?

Mr. Biden told supporters to win Delaware in a confident tone, “We’re going to win this race.” His running mate Kamala Harris joined him.

He said he was on track to win more than 300 Electoral College votes and pointed out that more people had voted for his campaign – over 74 million people – than any US presidential candidate in history.

Mr. Biden said Americans had given him the mandate to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, the struggling economy, climate change, and systemic racism.

Furthermore, he also said that it was time to “get the vitriol out of our politics” and “be civil to one another”.
“We may be opponents but we’re not enemies, we’re Americans,” said Mr. Biden, who did not mention his Republican opponent, Mr. Trump.

The Democrat said he hoped to address Americans again on Saturday.

On Thursday, Biden spoke from his campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. He appealed for calm across the country.

He expressed confidence in a televised address that he would win.

“Democracy is sometimes messy,” he said. “It sometimes requires a little patience as well.

“But that patience has been rewarded now for more than 240 years, the system of governance that has been the envy of the world.”

He added, “I asked everyone to stay calm. All people to stay calm. The process is working. The count is being completed. And we’ll know very soon.”
