Thai authorities raided the Bangkok residence of a Myanmar tycoon accused of drug trafficking and money laundering and discovered assets belonging to the adult children of the military leader of Myanmar.
When Tun Min Latt, 53, and three other Thai nationals were detained in the Thai capital last September on suspicion of conspiring to trade in drugs and money laundering, title deeds and bankbooks belonging to Min Aung Hlaing’s daughter and son were discovered there.
Three sources with knowledge of the situation told Media last year that Tun Min Latt, who has interests in hotels, energy, and mining, is a close associate of Min Aung Hlaing, who overthrew the democratically elected government in February 2021.
According to the sources, he has acquired supplies for the military. They can be seen together in images that are out there in 2019 at an arms show.
Tun Min Latt is being held in pre-trial custody; his attorney was not available for comment.
According to the two people with knowledge of the situation, Min Aung Hlaing’s two children are not subject to legal action about the assets. Additionally, they stated that the Thai authorities did not see them as having any bearing on the enquiry of Tun Min Latt.
