CAIRO: A road trip along Egypt’s scenic Red Sea coast turned deadly Wednesday when a bus crashed between the resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, killing at least 22 people and injuring 28 others.
Egypt’s Health Ministry said 20 ambulances were sent to the crash site in South Sinai. The injured were taken to three hospitals for treatment. Authorities did not immediately disclose what caused the crash or how many people were aboard the bus.
Jordanian officials and media reported that several Jordanians were among the victims. State broadcaster Al-Mamlaka reported that 10 Jordanians were killed and said the bus was carrying 43 people, though Egyptian authorities had not immediately confirmed the nationality breakdown.

The crash occurred along a route popular with tourists for its beaches, marine life and mountainous landscapes. Dahab and Nuweiba are known for diving, snorkeling and desert excursions and attract visitors from Egypt and abroad.
Deadly road crashes remain common in Egypt, with reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance and inconsistent enforcement of traffic rules often cited as contributing factors. Nearly 6,000 people were killed in road accidents across the country in 2025, according to Egyptian state statistics.
Last month, at least 18 people were killed and 30 others injured when two trucks collided in northern Egypt, underscoring the continuing road safety challenges across the country.
Authorities were investigating the latest crash, but no cause had been announced.
