North Korea spy satellite: South halts military deal after launch

South Korea has suspended parts of its 2018 agreement with North Korea, aimed at reducing military tensions, following Pyongyang’s claim of a successful launch of a spy satellite.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo stated that the launch posed a threat to South Korea’s security. The suspended pact limited military movements, banned live-fire drills, and established a no-fly zone.

South Korea will resume surveillance flights along its border with North Korea. Some analysts warn that the suspension could escalate tensions and increase the likelihood of cross-border skirmishes.

North Korea’s satellite launch is seen as part of its five-year military plan.
