Schools to Close Early on Fridays

Following the nationwide setting of Friday prayer time at 12:45 pm, schools in Dubai will operate shorter hours on Fridays. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) said the decision aims to balance academic requirements with religious obligations, allowing students and staff to attend prayers on time.

Unified Friday Prayer and Sermon Timings

Authorities have standardized the timing of Friday prayers and sermons across the UAE to improve organization and convenience for worshippers. Residents have been advised to reach mosques early to attend the sermon.

New Tax System on Sugary Drinks

From January 2026, the flat 50 percent tax on sugar-sweetened beverages has been replaced with a tax based on sugar content. The move aims to improve public health by discouraging excessive sugar consumption and aligns the UAE with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) standards.

Red Carpet Service at Dubai Airport

Dubai International Airport has expanded its Red Carpet Service. Previously limited to business-class departures, the service will now also be available to arriving passengers at Terminal 3. After biometric registration, travelers will be able to clear immigration quickly through smart gates.

Nationwide Ban on Single-Use Plastics

From 2026, the production, import, and sale of single-use plastic items such as cups, plates, cutlery, straws, and Styrofoam food containers will be banned across the UAE. The decision supports environmental protection and sustainable economic practices.

Additional Plastic Restrictions in Dubai

As part of the final phase of Dubai’s plastic ban, more items have been restricted. Dubai Municipality has also issued guidance to businesses to help them shift toward eco-friendly alternatives.

New Parking System in Discovery Gardens

A paid parking system under Parkonic is being introduced in Discovery Gardens. Each residential unit will receive one free parking permit, while additional vehicles will require a monthly subscription.

Licensing System for Content Creators

Content creators and influencers earning income from advertising on social media must obtain an advertiser license from the UAE Media Council by January 31, 2026. The license will be free for citizens and residents for the first three years.
