  • Violations resulted in fines ranging from Dh20,000 to Dh100,000 for each case.
  • The 1,379 firms were found to have illegally hired 2,170 UAE nationals.
  • Data from mid-2022 to May 2024 shows over 97,000 Emiratis employed in about 20,000 private companies.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) announced on Friday that it penalized more than 1,300 private companies in the UAE for violating Emiratisation rules from mid-2022 to May 16, 2024.

Each violator received fines ranging from Dh20,000 to Dh100,000 for each case. Mohre said it found these 1,379 firms to have illegally hired 2,170 UAE nationals. Private companies in the country must increase the percentage of their Emirati workforce by two percent every year to reach at least 10 percent by 2026.

Mohre said it gathered data from mid-2022 to May 2024, indicating that more than 97,000 Emiratis are currently employed in about 20,000 private companies in the country.

The ministry regularly conducts inspections to ensure compliance. Since the enforcement of rules, it has caught hundreds of companies that circumvented targets through illegal hiring practices.

When it is confirmed that a UAE national works in a nominal job without real tasks to meet the establishment's Emiratisation targets, Emiratisation is considered fake. Some also 'rehire' an Emirati to manipulate data.

Violators face hefty fines of up to Dh100,000 and are referred to the Public Prosecution. Mohre also downgraded some to the lowest company rating within its system, while others were mandated to pay Emiratisation financial contributions.

"Harmful practices that aim to undermine Emiratisation commitments will be dealt with firmly and according to the law," the ministry said.

Authorities urge residents to report any practices that violate labor rules by dialing 600590000 or by using the Mohre app or website.
