Vietnamese boy trapped in concrete pile on NYE dies
A 10-year-old Vietnamese kid who fell on New Year’s Eve into a concrete pile’s confined open hole has been officially declared dead, state media reported on Wednesday.
Online site cited a local government source as claiming that rescuers attempted to remove Ly Hao Nam from the 35-meter long support pillar pushed into the ground for about 100 hours without success.
“The authorities have determined that the victim has died and are trying to recover his body for the funeral,” deputy chairman of the southern province of Dong Thap, Doan Tan Buu, was quoted as saying.
On Saturday, while looking for scrap iron with companions at a bridge building site in the Mekong delta area, Nam was heard screaming for help just before he fell into the 25 cm-diameter hollow concrete pile.
According to the government, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had earlier on Wednesday encouraged the rescuers and local officials to mobilize all necessary resources.
