UAE experience the coldest day of the year as temperature drops to 5.3°C
Over the past couple of days, the National Centre of Meteorology has recorded chilly weather, with several locations waking up to single-digit temperatures.
On January 10, the National Centre of Meteorology officially recorded the coldest day of the year, noting a temperature of 5.3°C in Raknah (Al Ain) at 7.30 am. This represents the lowest temperature documented by the NCM so far in 2024. In the preceding Thursday, the temperature in the area was reported as 5.8°C.
While Raknah has experienced colder temperatures compared to most other areas, on January 9, Jebel Jais Mountain recorded a temperature drop to 7.2°C. Since the beginning of 2024, temperatures have fallen below 10ºC in the country, and certain mountainous regions are anticipated to witness even lower temperatures. The coldest air temperature recorded thus far occurred in Raknah in 2021, plummeting to -2ºC.
The official commencement of the winter months in the UAE took place after December 21, and experts note that the country has encountered a milder winter compared to previous years. December’s average temperature has also been higher than in previous years.
Outdoor and adventure enthusiasts are eagerly embracing the cold weather to enjoy the enchanting snow-capped mountains of Jebel Jais. According to Fahad Mohamad Abdul Rehman, popularly known as one of the most dedicated storm chasers in the UAE, the renowned mountain in Ras Al Khaimah stands out as one of the most attractive winter destinations.
“There are many tourist places in the country, but the best one is Jebel Jais according to me. It’s cold, but I feel happy, peaceful, and positive when I reach such locations. The white snow-covered mountains in the winter months make it all the more inviting,” he said in an interview.
