SHO among five cops suspended for raiding house of Barrister Gohar
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police on Sunday took action by suspending five officers including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Margalla, following a preliminary inquiry into the recent raid at the residence of Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to the official statement, once the police party realized that they had raided Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s residence, they promptly returned.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan summoned the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) and instructed an investigation into the incident, as mentioned in the police statement. Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Akbar Nasir later visited Barrister Gohar’s house.
It’s noteworthy that the PTI chairman was informed about the raid while attending a Supreme Court hearing regarding his party’s electoral symbol, the “bat.”
During the hearing, Barrister Gohar informed Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa about the incident, alleging that his son and nephew were subjected to “torture,” and that the police confiscated a computer and documents. Consequently, the PTI chief requested to be excused from the hearing and left.
In response, the Chief Justice called Additional Attorney General Chaudhry Amir Rehman to address the situation, expressing that the events should not have occurred.
The additional attorney general pledged to investigate the matter and left the courtroom. Upon Barrister Gohar’s return to the court, CJP Qazi Faez Isa acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and directed the additional attorney general to resolve the matter.
