
Indian former President Pranab Mukherjee has passed away on Monday (31st August) at the age of 84. The news of his death was announced by his son Abhijit Mukherjee.
According to details, the former Indian President was tested positive for coronavirus when he went to an Army Hospital for treatment. He also underwent surgery for a blood clot in the brain at the hospital.
His son, Abhijit announced the news on his Twitter account and wrote,
“With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father Pranab Mukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital and prayers, duas & Prarthana from people throughout India.”
As per sources, Pranab Mukherjee was put on ventilator support for days.
Indian Prime Minister Modi has also condoled Pranab Mukherjee’s death, remembers him as ‘a scholar par excellence and a towering statesman’.
Modi wrote in a series of tweet that,
“India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee. He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation. A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum and by all sections of society.”

It should be mentioned here that Pranab Mukherjee’s political career spanned five decades. He was in the Indian Presidential office from 2012 to 2017.
