Punjab Government Aims to Extend Lahore’s Metro Train Network
The Punjab Government is embarking on a transformative journey to expand Lahore’s metro train network with the introduction of the Blue and Purple Line Metro Train services. These projects represent a significant investment in the region’s transportation infrastructure, aiming to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion, and improve the overall commuting experience for residents.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has submitted detailed proposals for both the Blue and Purple Line Train Projects to the Punjab government for approval. These projects, estimated to cost a substantial Rs 14.5 trillion, constitute a significant portion of the province’s budget allocation, underscoring the government’s commitment to modernizing transportation in Lahore.
The Purple Line Metro Train project, with an estimated cost of approximately 577 billion rupees, is designed to cover a 16-kilometer route between the airport and Bhati Chowk. This line will feature about 16 stations strategically placed to serve various areas of the city. It is expected to cater to around 250,000 commuters daily, offering efficient connectivity and easing travel within Lahore.
On the other hand, the Blue Line Train Project comes with an estimated cost of around 872 billion rupees. It will span 27 kilometers from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Interchange, encompassing 28 stations along the route. This extensive line aims to accommodate the daily commute of approximately 400,000 citizens, contributing significantly to reducing traffic congestion on key routes and improving accessibility across Lahore.
The formulation of Project Concept (PC-1) for these mega projects will commence once the Punjab government endorses the proposals, signaling a significant step forward in enhancing Lahore’s public transportation infrastructure. The comprehensive plans have been presented to Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, and her Cabinet, reflecting the government’s dedication to modernizing and improving the city’s transport systems for the benefit of its residents.
The introduction of the Blue and Purple Line Metro Train services is poised to bring about a positive transformation in Lahore’s transportation landscape, foster economic growth, and improve the quality of life for its residents. These initiatives underscore the government’s proactive approach towards sustainable urban development and efficient public transportation solutions.
