Abi Carter, a 21-year-old singer and instrumentalist from Indio, California, has been passionate about music since childhood. At age 11, a revelation struck her while listening to “Battle Scars” by Guy Sebastian and Lupe Fiasco, sparking her interest in music theory and performance.
Carter’s life took a dramatic turn when she auditioned for American Idol Season 22. Her captivating performance of Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” earned her the first Platinum Ticket of the season.
Throughout the competition, she impressed judges and audiences with her versatility, performing songs by Cher, My Chemical Romance, Taylor Swift, and more.
Her journey through American Idol included standout performances like “California Dreamin’” and “Bring Me to Life.” In the finale, Carter performed her original song “This Isn’t Over,” securing her victory against finalists Will Moseley and Jack Blocker.
Raised by her mother, Andrea, Carter was homeschooled and briefly attended La Quinta High School. She later graduated summa cum laude from California State University San Bernardino.
Her musical journey was supported by her piano teacher, Marta Basham, who offered free lessons, recognizing Carter’s exceptional talent and dedication.
