Despite a reduction in heat intensity, the nation is experiencing an escalating electricity deficit, now at 5,688 megawatts (MW).

Presently, the country’s electricity demand stands at 25,000 MW, whereas the aggregate electricity generation is 19,312 MW.

Hydropower is contributing 6,780 MW to the electricity grid. Government-operated thermal power plants are producing 875 MW.

Private sector power plants are delivering 7,223 MW, with wind energy facilities contributing an additional 1,000 MW.

According to reports, solar power plants are generating 192 MW, bagasse-based plants 142 MW, and nuclear power plants are supplying 3,100 MW to the national grid.

Urban areas are undergoing electricity load shedding for six hours daily. In rural regions, the load shedding extends up to eight hours, while areas with high line losses are facing 12 to 14 hours of power outages, sources report.
