‘Yodha’ actor slams Dharma Productions, Yash Raj Films for paying less to actors
Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films are among the most famous production houses in Hindi cinema. For years, they have led the industry with their big-budget films.
However, actor Vikram Kapadia, who has worked with both studios, has criticized them for being “egoistical” and underpaying actors. In a recent interview with Bollywood Now, he stated, “Yash Raj and Dharma have this ego that we are Yash Raj and Dharma so we will pay you a little less but you should be happy because we are paying you.” He believes this attitude causes concerns among actors.
Kapadia noted that while the payment might be lower, it is always made on time. He explained, “Yash Raj paid me well as a writer but hoga na kahi pe that hum Yash Raj hain. You are getting a role, they are giving you a break.”
Karan Johar has previously addressed the costs associated with hiring actors. In an interview with Screen Magazine, he mentioned, “The entourage cost is the least of our worry. It’s the main remuneration of the actors that has to be looked into.”
In recent news, Aadar Poonawala of the Serum Institute bought a 50% stake in Dharma Productions for ₹1000 crore, further strengthening the studio’s position.
