Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, known for hits like Patiala Peg, recently responded to a notice from the Telangana government prohibiting him from performing songs about drugs and alcohol.

During his concert in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Diljit expressed his views, highlighting the inconsistency of such restrictions and the broader issue of alcohol promotion.

Standing before a large crowd, Diljit remarked, “Main vo bhi nahin gaunga (I’ll not sing them either). It’s very easy to tweak the songs, kyunki main khud sharaab nahi peeta lekin Bollywood ke jo kalakaar hain vo sharaab ki advertisement karte hain, Diljit Dosanjh advertisement nahi karta. Aap merko chedo mat. Main jahan jaata hoon apna program karta hoon chala jaata hoon. Aap kyun chhed rahe ho mujhe (I don’t drink, but Bollywood artists endorse alcohol. Don’t poke me. I do my shows and leave. Why are you poking me?).”

Diljit, who released two devotional songs recently, added, “People only talk about Patiala Peg. I’m just singing songs; I’m not insisting anyone drink.” He also proposed that if all Indian states became dry, he would stop performing songs about alcohol entirely.

“Bahut bada revenue hai. Corona mein sab band ho gaya tha theke band nahin hue the…aap youth ko f**du nahin bana sakte (It generates huge revenue. Everything shut during COVID, but not taverns. You can’t fool the youth).”

Artists like B Praak and Yo Yo Honey Singh extended their support, with B Praak commenting, “Perfectly said, Paaji. We have to bring this change.”

Diljit’s next stop is Lucknow on November 22 as part of his Dil-Luminati tour.
