New York: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has stated that the people of the region can no longer bear more destruction; the war must be stopped.

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, addressed the Security Council, strongly condemning the recent bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities by the United States. He described the incident as a “perilous turn” that could significantly escalate tensions across the region.

Guterres emphasized that the region cannot withstand another “cycle of destruction” and called for immediate action to prevent further conflict. He urged all parties to implement an immediate ceasefire and stressed the importance of returning to “serious, sustained negotiations” to de-escalate the crisis and restore stability.

The Secretary-General underscored the necessity of concerted international efforts to prevent further violence and ensure peace in the region.

During the session, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warned that following the American strike, large craters have been observed at the Fordo nuclear site, raising concerns about potential further destruction and instability.
