Balochistan Professor arrested for aiding BLA activities
QUETTA: Authorities have arrested a Balochistan University professor on charges of facilitating the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in its activities across the province.
A video confession of Dr. Usman Qazi, a professor at the Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), has surfaced online in which he admitted to having links with the BLA and helping the group in different tasks.
In his statement, Dr. Usman said he and his wife both work as government employees. He earned his PhD from Peshawar University and was serving as a Grade-18 lecturer at BUITEMS. He explained that during an academic trip from Peshawar to Quaid-e-Azam University, he met three people associated with the BLA, two of whom were later killed.
Dr. Usman revealed that Dr. Hebtan, alias Kalak, later approached him and recruited him into the organization. “After that, I was introduced to Bashir Zeb, with whom I communicated through Telegram. Within the group, I was given the alias ‘Amir’ and assigned three tasks,” he confessed.
He admitted that his first task was providing medical treatment to BLA Regional Commander Sher Dil. The second was in November, when he gave shelter to two militants at his home. One of them later carried out the suicide attack at Quetta Railway Station.
“For my third task, I collected a pistol and handed it over to a woman for target killing operations,” he added.
Dr. Usman also said that a militant named Nauman alias Firq stayed at his house for eight days. He later handed him over to another BLA commander, who had directed Firq to carry out a suicide attack during any event on August 14.
