Islamabad: Today, the nation observes Air Force Day with profound patriotic fervor and national pride, commemorating the valiant aerial combat fought on September 7 during the 1965 war.

This day is dedicated to honoring the unmatched bravery and sacrifices of the valiant falcons of the Pakistan Air Force, who etched history by downing advanced enemy aircraft and defending the nation’s skies.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered his special message on the occasion, he stated:

“The entire nation is proud of the brave sons of the Pakistan Air Force. Their professionalism, patriotism, and sacrifices are a shining chapter in our history. Be it the 1965 war or recent operations, the PAF has always proven its mettle on every front.”

He further added, “Our heroes have shown that no enemy can defeat the spirit, courage, and unity of the Pakistani nation. God willing, the Pakistan Air Force will continue to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and regional integrity with full force.”

PM Shehbaz also praised the PAF’s remarkable role in the Battle of Truth “Bunyan-um-Marsoos”.

“The PAF has always surprised and outmaneuvered the enemy, demonstrating its multifaceted capabilities and proving that it ranks among the finest air forces in the world.”

It is worth noting that on September 7, 1965, the gallant airmen of the PAF not only successfully defended Pakistani airspace by destroying multiple enemy aircraft but also crushed the adversary’s aggressive ambitions. To mark this historic day, various ceremonies are being held across the country to pay tribute to the martyrs and heroes of the Pakistan Air Force.

During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) engaged in large-scale aerial combat for the first time in their histories. The air war, which unfolded throughout September, saw both nations conduct thousands of offensive and defensive sorties over each other’s airspace.

Both sides made competing claims of success. Pakistan asserted that it had shot down 104 Indian aircraft while losing only 19 of its own. Conversely, India claimed to have destroyed 73 Pakistani aircraft at the cost of 35 Indian planes.

In a solemn and dignified ceremony, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) paid homage to Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider) on the occasion of Air Force Day. The tribute reflects the nation’s enduring gratitude to one of its most revered heroes.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the grave of the young martyr in Karachi. Air Vice Marshal Aamir Shehzad led the PAF contingent, which laid a floral wreath on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff. A smartly turned-out PAF contingent presented a salute at the mausoleum, honoring the extraordinary sacrifice of the youngest recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military gallantry award.

Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas embraced martyrdom on August 20, 1971, thwarting an attempted hijacking of his aircraft and choosing death over disloyalty. His courage, unwavering resolve, and supreme sacrifice remain a beacon of inspiration for the entire nation.

Speaking on the occasion, officials emphasized that Air Force Day is a tribute to the valor and dedication of the Pakistan Air Force’s martyrs and veterans. It marks the indomitable spirit with which the PAF defended the country, particularly during the 1965 war, when PAF heroes thwarted enemy advances with unmatched skill and bravery.

The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the legacy of those who laid down their lives in the defense of Pakistan and reaffirmed the PAF’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s airspace with honor, courage, and professionalism.
