ISLAMABAD: First Lady and Member of the National Assembly, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, has said that Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has demanded the federal government to impose an agricultural emergency in the country.
In her statement, Aseefa Bhutto said Bilawal Bhutto has also called on the government to waive electricity bills in flood-hit areas and provide immediate relief to affected families through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
She further stated that the PPP chairman has urged the federal government to engage international organizations for immediate assistance to flood victims.
Aseefa Bhutto added that the Pakistan Peoples Party will table resolutions in all provincial assemblies, the National Assembly, and the Senate to press for urgent relief and rehabilitation measures.
Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had called for the waiver of electricity bills for farmers affected by recent floods in Punjab.
Speaking to flood victims in the Thatta Sial area of Muzaffargarh, Bilawal said that farmers should be provided with free electricity relief, along with timely access to seeds and fertilizers to help them recover their livelihoods.
He further proposed launching a nationwide appeal to support the flood-hit population, stressing that this was not a time for political point-scoring.
“This is not about where the affected people come from. In these difficult times, it is our collective responsibility to stand with the people and extend every possible support,” the PPP chairman said.
