After days of heavy rain that brought life to a standstill, Murtaza Wahab, the Mayor of Karachi, has announced a three-day fumigation campaign to protect the city from diseases like Malaria, Dengue, and Chikungunya.

He has directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to start the anti-germ spraying drive across all districts from tomorrow. The aim is to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases and protect public health, especially after stagnant rainwater has created ideal conditions for mosquitoes to breed.

Mayor Wahab said this step is essential to keep people safe and avoid potential outbreaks.

The recent rain has flooded several low-lying areas, raised water levels in the Malir River and Lyari River, and caused severe traffic jams. Roads like Shahrah-e-Faisal, Korangi, and Qayyumabad remain waterlogged, while areas near Stadium, Civic Center, NIPA Chowrangi, North Karachi, Expo Center, Kala Pul, and Gora Qabristan are heavily congested.

Floodwaters even entered homes near the Malir River, forcing many families to leave for safer places. However, Mayor Wahab noted that water flow from Thaddo Dam has now decreased, which will help drainage efforts in affected neighborhoods.

This fumigation drive is part of the city’s urgent response to protect residents and restore normal life after the damaging rains.
