Lahore : As Punjab braces for another round of intense monsoon activity, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a province-wide alert in response to forecasts of heavy rainfall.

The upcoming 11th spell of monsoon rains, expected between September 16 and 19, may trigger flash floods in vulnerable areas, particularly along the upper stretches of Punjab’s river systems.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, torrential rains are likely to impact the upper catchments of major rivers, raising concerns about flooding in low-lying and riverine areas. In preparation, PDMA has instructed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain on high alert and implement necessary precautionary measures.

Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, emphasized the heightened risk of flash floods in streams and seasonal nullahs during the expected rainfall period. He confirmed that all relevant departments including Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government, and Livestock have been placed on alert to ensure coordinated emergency response.

Following the directives of Punjab’s Chief Minister, emergency protocols are being actively enforced. Citizens are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from riverbanks and water bodies during inclement weather, and take all necessary safety precautions.
