KARACHI: Actress Maimoona Qudoos has stirred debate with her bold statements about homosexuality and exploitation in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, particularly pointing fingers at Lahore.
Her remarks came during a recent podcast where she openly discussed issues she claims are deeply rooted in showbiz circles.
Qudoos alleged that while unethical behavior exists in Karachi as well, such activities are more visible and accepted in Lahore, where even public gatherings are held.
She went on to describe the entertainment scene in Lahore as “more filthy,” accusing people there of flaunting fake wealth and engaging in a constant race to outshine one another.
She contrasted this with Karachi, where she believes people are more professional but to an extent where professionalism has overtaken basic human decency.
According to her, even personal relationships have become transactional. “In Karachi, even if a man asks a girl to be his girlfriend, he makes it clear what he’s offering and what he expects in return,” she claimed.
“The industry has become a place where casting couch culture is not just a rumor it’s a reality,” she added. “And it’s not just the women who suffer; many men are also exploited.”
The actress’s comments have sparked both criticism and support on social media. While some praised her for speaking out about taboo issues, others accused her of generalizing and painting an entire city’s industry in a negative light.
Nonetheless, her claims have reignited discussions around ethics, harassment, and power dynamics in Pakistan’s entertainment world.
