SHIKARPUR: At least eight people, including four children, were killed and five others seriously injured in a tragic road accident late Friday night when a speeding truck overturned onto people sleeping by the roadside in Shikarpur.

The incident occurred near Kundan Chowrangi on the Jacobabad–Shikarpur Road, where a truck loaded with garlic and onion sacks lost control due to speeding, first crashing into an electricity pole before toppling over onto members of the Bagri community sleeping alongside the road.

Rescue teams and Shikarpur police rushed to the scene after the incident. The deceased were identified as 38-year-old Gobhi, 40-year-old Rabia, 10-year-old Reema, 8-year-old Rasheeda, 8-year-old Samia, 12-year-old Inamullah, 6-year-old Pyari, and 17-year-old Muni.

Those injured include Suleman Khameso, Owais, and Vijay. The bodies and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Shikarpur.

According to police, the truck driver fled the scene following the accident. Authorities have seized the vehicle and launched an investigation.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has expressed his grief over the death of eight people in Shikarpur truck accident, here on Saturday.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed to provide best medical treatment to the injured persons.

He ordered the Commissioner Sukkur to provide all possible help to the affected families.

Shah also directed to take action against the driver and truck owner, who were found guilty of speeding.

He prayed for the highest ranks of the deceased and patience for the bereaved families.
