CPEC Phase II brings new era for Pakistani industry and development
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the main project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), is changing Pakistan’s economy and regional trade landscape. Launched in 2015, CPEC aims to turn Pakistan into a center for trade, energy, and industrial growth.
CPEC began with Phase I, which focused on solving Pakistan’s long-standing energy crisis and improving infrastructure. More than 20 power projects added over 7,000 megawatts to the national grid, helping revive industries and stabilize electricity supply. Major road and transport projects — such as the Karakoram Highway expansion, Multan–Sukkur Motorway, Lahore Orange Line, and Gwadar East Bay Expressway — boosted connectivity and opened new routes for business and tourism. Gwadar Port became the “heart of CPEC,” with a new port, free zone, and international airport.
Now, CPEC has entered Phase II, focusing on industrialization, agriculture, and human development. Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Rashakai, Faisalabad, Dhabeji, and Bostan are attracting investors and creating jobs. China and Pakistan are also working together to modernize farming through technology and innovation.
This phase highlights social progress — better education, healthcare, and poverty reduction — through community projects supported by China. Gwadar continues to grow with the development of new industrial parks and smart port facilities, further strengthening Pakistan’s trade links with the region.
CPEC not only connects China with Central Asia and the Middle East but also builds Pakistan’s economic strength and resilience. With stable policies and continued cooperation, CPEC promises a brighter and more prosperous future — a true symbol of lasting China-Pakistan friendship.
