ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that following recent talks, Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached a consensus on the urgent need to eradicate terrorism.

In an interview with Arab News Channel, the Khawaja Asif stated that the core objective of the agreement between the two neighbouring countries is to end terrorism, which has long plagued border regions on both sides.

He noted that the issue of terrorism had escalated into direct clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan last week. However, both countries have now agreed that eliminating terrorism is essential for regional peace and stability.

Khawaja Asif said that both countries will make serious efforts to control terrorism, otherwise the peace of the region may face serious threats.

The Defence Minister added that the agreement was mainly mediated by Qatar and Turkey and for this he thanked Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the head of the Turkish delegation, Ibrahim.
