ISLAMABAD: Justice Munib Akhtar on Monday stepped into a key constitutional role as he assumed charge as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan, following Chief Justice Yahya Afridi’s departure abroad for an official visit, marking a significant moment in the Supreme Court’s administrative continuity.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court Branch Registry in Karachi in a simple yet dignified manner. The oath was administered by Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui.

Justice Munib Akhtar will discharge the responsibilities of Acting Chief Justice for the duration of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi’s absence from the country.

As the senior-most judge of the apex court after the Chief Justice, he has assumed the charge in line with established constitutional and judicial practice.

The ceremony was attended by judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as well as judges of the Federal Constitutional Court. Senior judicial officers, court officials, and members of the Supreme Court staff were also present on the occasion.

The proceedings of the oath-taking ceremony were conducted by the Registrar of the Supreme Court.
