The unofficial and unconfirmed results of the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections have started emerging, with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) taking the lead in several constituencies, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is also ahead in some seats.
Polling was held for eight constituencies of Muzaffarabad Division and 12 refugee seats during the second phase. The voting process continued until 6 p.m.
However, elections in constituency LA-27 were postponed at all 196 polling stations due to bad weather and landslides, which prevented election staff and polling material from reaching the designated locations.
After the conclusion of polling, vote counting began and unofficial results started coming in.
According to initial results, PML-N has won two constituencies, while its candidates are leading in 13 other seats. Meanwhile, PPP candidates are ahead in five constituencies.
For refugee seats, unofficial results show that PML-N has won four constituencies and is leading in 11 others. PPP has secured one seat and is ahead in four constituencies.
Constituency-wise Unofficial Results
In LA-34 Jammu-1, based on results from 51 of 131 polling stations, PML-N candidate Nasir Hussain Dar is leading with 1,690 votes, followed by All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference candidate Muhammad Saud Mukhtar with 741 votes.
In LA-35 Jammu-2, results from 100 of 142 polling stations show PML-N’s Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail ahead with 18,788 votes, while independent candidate Sardar Muhammad Ghias is in second place with 5,041 votes.
In LA-36 Jammu-3, PML-N’s Muhammad Ahsan Raza is leading with 10,002 votes, while PPP candidate Ahsan Ismail is second with 4,756 votes.
In LA-37 Jammu-4, PML-N candidate Maryam Javed is ahead with 17,989 votes from 113 of 185 polling stations, while independent candidate Usman Aleem has received 13,600 votes.
In LA-38 Jammu-5, PML-N’s Zeeshan Ali is leading with 5,483 votes, followed by Muslim League AJK candidate Muhammad Akbar Chaudhry with 4,935 votes.
In LA-39 Jammu-6, PML-N candidate Raja Muhammad Siddiq is ahead with 2,328 votes, while PPP’s Chaudhry Fakhar Zaman is second with 650 votes.
In LA-40 Kashmir Valley-1, PPP candidate Amir Abdul Ghaffar is leading with 1,178 votes, while PML-N’s Muhammad Naeem Khan has 65 votes.
In LA-41 Kashmir Valley-2, PML-N candidate Muhammad Amir Shah is ahead with 984 votes, while independent candidate Saba Dewan is second with 588 votes.
In LA-42 Kashmir Valley-3, PML-N’s Syed Shaukat Ali Shah is leading with 1,319 votes, while PPP candidate Muhammad Asim Sharif has received 682 votes.
In LA-43 Kashmir Valley-4, PML-N candidate Muhammad Yaseen Lone was declared successful according to unofficial results from all 10 polling stations, securing 1,276 votes. PPP candidate Javed Butt remained second with 563 votes.
In LA-44 Kashmir Valley-5, PML-N’s Muhammad Ahmed Raza Qadri won according to unofficial results from all 27 polling stations with 1,700 votes. All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference candidate Mehr-un-Nisa secured second place with 650 votes.
In LA-45 Kashmir Valley-6, PPP candidate Abdul Majid Khan is leading with 2,444 votes based on results from 15 of 41 polling stations, while Muslim Conference candidate Khawaja Muhammad Dilawar is second with 562 votes.
Final Results to Be Announced After Official Verification
Election officials said the results released so far are unofficial and unconfirmed. Final results will be announced after completion of the election process and official verification.
According to the Election Commission, polling began at 8 a.m. and was extended until 6 p.m. due to the large number of voters.
Over 1.2 Million Voters Eligible to Cast Votes
More than 1.2 million voters were eligible to participate in the second phase of the elections. A total of 1,483 polling stations and 2,219 polling booths were established for voters.
The Election Commission declared three constituencies, LA-28, LA-29 and LA-31, as highly sensitive.
Under the security plan, eight security personnel were deployed at highly sensitive polling stations, six at sensitive stations and four at normal polling stations.
25 Political Parties Contest Elections
A total of 25 political parties, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, along with independent candidates, are participating in the second phase of the elections.
For Muzaffarabad district’s five seats, 480,219 voters are registered. Neelum district’s two seats have 151,911 registered voters, while 177,500 voters are registered for the two seats of Jhelum Valley.
AJK Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal urged citizens to exercise their right to vote and play their role in selecting better leadership. He said all arrangements had been completed to ensure transparent, peaceful and fair elections.
