Facebook Bans Australian Chef Pete Evans For Spreading Misinformation

Facebook prohibited Pete Evans, the Australian chef and conspiracy theorist from spreading false information regarding the novel coronavirus.

On Thursday, Facebook released that it will not “allow anyone to share misinformation about COVID-19 that could lead to imminent physical harm”.

“We have clear policies against this type of content and we’ve removed Chef Pete Evans’ Facebook Page for repeated violations of these policies,” the company further added.

Evan’s Facebook-owned platform is also having a massive following of 278,000. However, his page features posts encouraging the residents of Sydney to not follow the instructions for the coronavirus given by the public health officials also not going for the screening of the virus.

Evans said on Instagram that he is happy to play his part in being “one of the catalysts for a conversation” about freedom of speech and explained the science around the pandemic as “BS”.

Earlier, Facebook prohibited well-known people from spreading deceitful information revolving around coronavirus. Notable people like conspiracist Alex Jones and far-right figure Milo Yiannopoulos are still banned from the platform.

Previously, masses used to recognize Evans for promoting pseudoscientific diet ideas such as the Palaeolithic diet. It was linked with his business and made him earn the nickname of “Paleo” Pete.
