The Planning Minister Asad Umar has announced that registration of 300,000 front-line health workers for coronavirus vaccination across the country has been completed.

A statement issued by Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives on Twitter informed, “About 300,000 healthcare workers have been registered so far.”

Asad Umar maintained that health care workers deputed to inject the COVID-19 vaccine had already been trained.

“From day 1, the NCOC has adopted the policy that the federal government shall not have the monopoly to import anti-coronavirus vaccines,” the federal minister said.

He said, “Provinces and private entities including hospitals have been allowed to import the vaccines that are approved by DRAP.”

He added that, “the government is administering vaccines from multiple sources. Not only will healthcare workers be a priority, but people over the age of 65 will also be vaccinated.”

Pakistan has approved the emergency use of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and the government hopes to make the drug available by the first quarter of the year.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Health Dr Faisal Sultan confirmed on Saturday that the Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP) has granted approval for emergency use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine across the country.

Pakistan Coronavirus Cases

According to the COVID-19 national dashboard, 43 deaths added in the national tally of Pakistan taking figures to 10,951 on Sunday.

After 2,521 more infections in the single day, the total number of confirmed cases has risen to 519,291.

With 1,540 more recoveries, till now 473,639 have been recovered from the dread virus, whereas the active cases toll stands at 34,701.
